Dana Cooper House Concert!

House Concert with Dana Cooper!

Howdy friends and fans! While I'm still teaching and playing a bit here and there, I've sure enjoyed going out to hear music more often now. Dana Cooper is someone I saw at the Magic Rat with Liz Barnez awhile back, and wow, did I love his songs! So we're hosting him for a house concert at our place (117 Evans Dr. in Fort Collins) through our non-profit, Paths of Heart, as part of his CD release tour. The date is April 13th. Show starts at 7 with doors at 6:30. Dana will play 2 sets with an intermission in between where we'll share finger foods and drinks, so bring something of that nature if you can. Mark your calendars, rsvp, or best yet, pre-pay with paypal https://www.pathsofheart.org/donate/ with Dana Cooper in the special instructions, or with venmo @pathsofheart. Contact me with any questions! This will be an amazing show!

Jeff Plankenhorn House Concert

Happy Summer Everyone!

It seems the sun has finally decided to shine for some longer periods of time - just in time for Solstice - ha ha!

We've recently received confirmation on a Garden Party/House Concert with our friends Sam and Lee Cooper that is coming right up, so wanted to get the word out pronto! It's Saturday, July 8th at 7 pm. We'll have an optional potluck beforehand starting at 6 in their lovely, magical backyard. Some wine and beer will be provided; bring a dish to share and other beverages of choice, or just come for the concert. Please bring your own chairs or a blanket to sit on, too. It'll be Mark and Emma Sloniker and me providing the tunes - our third year at the Coopers! $20 suggested donation at the door. There's plenty of room so we're not requiring pre-payment but you are welcome to do so with Venmo @Colleen-Crosson or paypal (colleencrosson@gmail.com) if that's easier for you. We would love RSVPs though so we can get a sense of the numbers anyway, and we'll give you the address when you rsvp, too. :-)

We also have 2 more summer concerts scheduled at Paths of Heart ~ Buddy Mondlock on Sunday, July 23rd and Megan Bee on Friday, August 4th. Details in the event section below.

Our regular Paths of Heart Sunday Gatherings have also started up again after our 6 month hiatus. We are meeting 2-3 times a month, in person or on Zoom. See detailed schedule below.

Though my regular club gigs have decreased by choice, I still very much enjoy teaching (voice, guitar, and ukulele), so please get in touch if you've been yearning to start a new hobby or polish up your skills! Thank you to the folks who've bought music lesson gift certificates for their loved ones for special occasions like birthdays or the holidays! It's a great way to start someone on a life-long love of music. You can just reply to this email or call 970-484-9600. And I do LOVE performing for special events and house concerts, so if you're planning an event that calls for live music, keep me in mind!

Did you know I also officiate weddings?? My "Songbird Celebrations" business has been picking up again after folks had to put off their weddings during the pandemic. Please keep me in mind if you know someone looking for an officiant (who can also provide the music if desired ~ I've done many "double duty" ceremonies!). More info at songbirdcelebrations.com. This will take you to my website, where you can click on the Songbird Celebrations tab on the lower left side menu.

Thanks always for your support of live music and local performers and we hope to see you at the upcoming concert or other events. Reply to this email with any questions.

Valentine's Day

Welcome to my Seasonal Newsletter!

Since I now send out a newsletter only every 3 months or so, it seems to fit... :-) Happy New Year everyone! January has all but come and gone, so I hope your year is off to a good start and you have lots of fun plans ahead. We've been traveling a bunch ~ the latest trip was to Nashville and Memphis. Talk about a music scene! The highlight was seeing our daughter Emma and her band "ThreeShots" compete in the International Blues Challenge on Beale Street! With over 70 bands (in addition to over 60 solo/duo acts) participating from all over the country AND the world, the competition was stiff! They didn't advance past the quarter finals, but their performances were stellar, they had an incredibly rewarding experience, and came away "winners" in many ways! We also had a chance to visit several friends in Nashville, take in some jazz at Rudy's, and boy, did we eat well!

I've got 2 "House Concert" events coming up in the next couple of months to share ~ The first is a "Paths of Heart Presents..." concert with Mark Sloniker on February 11th in our community space at 117 Evans Dr. in Fort Collins. It'll be a lovefest of love songs to celebrate Valentine's Day. There is a suggested "love offering" of $20 per person and we do appreciate RSVPs. If you’d like to donate in advance, you can do so with venmo: @PathsofHeart or paypal: https://www.pathsofheart.org/donate/ (mention “concert” in special instructions) or by sending a check to Paths of Heart at 117 Evans Dr., Fort Collins, CO 80524. That'll guarantee your seat, as space is limited. The concert will start at 7 with a potluck of “finger foods” at 6 for those who’d like to come early and visit pre-concert. We hope you can come!

The second is a welcome "resurrection" of my collaboration with author friend, Teresa Funke, on Sunday afternoon, March 26th at 2 p.m. As in the past, we'll pair Teresa's blog posts with complimentary music selections for a creative, integrative experience. We're calling this one our "Blessings from the Pandemic" Concert. As we approach the 3 year "anniversary" of this unique and challenging time in our lives ~ (in Teresa's words) "the ups and downs, the fears and hopes, the sudden and the slow realizations, and the growth that took place even during such a hard time" ~ we'll reflect through written word and song on what we gleaned from our experiences and what truly matters ~ individually and collectively ~ as humans co-existing in this complex world. Suggested donation is $35.00 which includes a Teresa Funke book or Colleen Crosson CD of your choice! Space is limited so we are requiring RSVPs and are highly suggesting paying in advance through venmo @Colleen-Crosson or paypal (send money from your paypal account to colleencrosson@gmail.com). We sure hope you can join us! We'll plan on light snacks and conversation after the concert, so if you were one of the many who took up baking during the pandemic, feel free to make your favorite snack recipe to share!

In the midst of our scheduled hiatus from regular Paths of Heart gatherings, we are sprinkling in some Sunday gatherings here and there, because we miss our beloved community so! The first is a ZOOM gathering on February 5th, followed by an in-person gathering and potluck on February 12th. Details in the section below.

Though my regular club gigs have decreased by choice, I still very much enjoy teaching (voice, guitar, and ukulele), so please get in touch if you've been yearning to start a new hobby or polish up your skills! Thank you to the folks who bought music lesson gift certificates for their loved ones over the holidays! It's a great way to start someone on a life-long love of music. You can just reply to this email or call 970-484-9600. And I do LOVE performing for special events and house concerts, so if you're planning an event that calls for live music, keep me in mind!

Thanks always for your support of live music and local performers and we hope to see you soon. Reply to this email with any questions.

Fall performances to note...

October 25, 2022

House Concert

Welcome to my Seasonal Newsletter!

Since you last heard from me way back in June, I think my newsletters can now be called "seasonal." :-)
I spent a good bit of the summer and fall gardening, traveling, camping, and kayaking with a few memorable music performances sprinkled in. Now there are a few gigs coming up soon that I wanted to tell you about:
The first is RISE: Women's Music Concert to benefit the "Living Her Legacy" non-profit organization. It's on Thursday, November 3rd in the Rio's Agave Room at 7 pm (food, fun, music, and margaritas!). I'll be performing with my long-time musical buddies Julie Hoest and Ellen Audley from The Mother Folkers! There will be 2 other acts as well. Follow this link for all the details - https://www.livingherlegacy.org/upcoming-events
Tickets were originally $60, but recognizing that inflation and other circumstances are hitting many of us hard, they are offering a BOGO (buy one, get one!) special. Invite a friend!

Next up will be a "Paths of Heart Presents..." Gratitude House Concert with The Sloniker/Crosson Clan (Mark, Colleen, Emma, AND Myles!) on Saturday, November 19 at 7 pm. We'll have a pre-concert potluck at 6 pm if you want to join us for that, and then we'll do one long set of music for ya! You're welcome to hang out and chat with us for a bit afterwards as well. This is a benefit for Paths of Heart, our non-profit organization, and we are suggesting a $30 donation for the concert (give more, or less, depending on your circumstances/desires!).

Check out the schedule below for details on these and other events coming up through the fall and winter.

Though my regular performances have decreased by choice, I still very much enjoy teaching (voice, guitar, and ukulele), so please get in touch if you've been yearning to start a new hobby or polish up your skills! You can just reply to this email or call 970-484-9600. And I do LOVE performing for special events and house concerts, so if you're planning an event that calls for live music, keep me in mind!

Thanks always for your support of live music and local musicians and we hope to see you soon. Reply to this email with any questions.

Garden Party/Outdoor Concert on the Horizon!

June 17, 2022

House Concert

No, I'm not retired quite yet!

Though my music gigs have been decidedly few and far between (except on Sundays at our Paths of Heart Gatherings), there are opportunities that come up that spell JOY to my soul, and this upcoming concert is certainly one of them!
Please join us on Saturday, July 2nd when Mark, Emma, and I will be doing a backyard garden party/house concert at the lovely home of Sam and Lee Cooper, 1829 Wallenberg Dr. in Fort Collins. Come for potluck appetizers at 6 p.m. if you can/wish and the music will start at 7. We'll end our set in plenty of time for you to head to the fireworks celebration in City Park, too, should you so desire. Bring your favorite beverage and your own chairs or a blanket to sit on, please. There is plenty of room in their backyard paradise, so we aren't even requesting RSVPs this time! Suggested donation is $20 (or more if you're feelin' it!) at the "door". If you do prefer to pay in advance, we can send you those options, too.

Though my performances have decreased, I still very much enjoy teaching (voice, guitar, and ukulele), so please get in touch if you've been yearning to start a new hobby or polish up your skills! You can just reply to this email. And I do LOVE performing for special events and house concerts, if you're planning an event that calls for live music.

It's been fun and rewarding to see our children blossom in their music careers and going to their gigs lately! We recently attended a Jacob Jolliff Band concert, the group Myles has been touring with for several years now, at E-Town Hall in Boulder. We also caught Emma with her band Three Shots at the Taste of Fort Collins this past weekend. Mark and Emma have recently started a regular Wednesday night gig at Ciao Vino in Old Town FC, too, which was delightful to attend this week.

Thanks always for your support of live music and local musicians and we hope to see you on July 2nd! Reply to this email with any questions.

House Concert

I'm so excited I've got to shout it out!

I said that almost 2 years ago before announcing a family band house concert and I'll say it again! Myles Sloniker is coming into town the first week of April and we want to share some music with you! This concert will be a benefit for our non-profit, Paths of Heart. Here are the details:
Special Event - April 9th, 7 pm (doors at 6:30) - Paths of Heart House Concert with the Sloniker-Crosson Clan - These past 2 "Pandemic Years" were not particularly kind to the coffers of Paths of Heart, so we've decided to have a concert to give our non-profit a boost! Since space is limited, we are asking folks that'll be attending to prepay, either on our website
https://www.pathsofheart.org/donate/ (with the word "Concert" in the note/special instruction section), or through Colleen's Venmo: @Colleen-Crosson
Suggested donation for the concert is $25 (more if you can, less if it just doesn't fit in your budget!). Feel free to bring a beverage of choice. There will be no intermission but we'll hang out a bit afterwards with some light snacks/finger foods which you are also welcome to bring/share. If you can't come to the concert but would like to contribute anyway, we'll give you 3 of our CDs (you pick!). We hope you will join us!
We are really looking forward to playing some music for you - it's been WAY too long!
See ya soon! Colleen, Mark, Myles, and Emma

Now, while I'm here I'll also tell you that I feel like I'm in a "semi-retirement" phase these days. I still very much enjoy teaching, and I do LOVE performing for special events and house concerts, but I think I'm pretty done with the bar and restaurant gigs, hauling gear around and playing what often amounts to "background music". A "listening room" is certainly more my style, now more than ever. I've really been enjoying seeing our children blossom in their music careers and going to their gigs instead of my own! So, catch me if ya can, but it certainly won't be as frequent as it once was, pre-pandemic. :-)
Thanks always for your understanding and support!
Love, Colleen

House Concert

I'm so excited I've got to shout it out!

After 6 strange months with no gigs, we are putting on a show! It's been many moons since we sent out any music news, as our whole family has been on a performing hiatus due to Covid-19 restrictions. Our son, Myles has been here with us for several months (along with his girlfriend, Taylor), as they both yearned to escape the confines of NYC and enjoy the summer in Colorado. What a joy it's been to have the whole family together again for a good long stretch (our daughter Emma lives just across town). We've been having some great adventures (just got back from a Steamboat retreat last night!), yet we thought we'd have done more playing together (even in our own living room) by now and it is almost time for Myles to return to the city. Many of you have told us that you've missed coming to see us, SO we have decided to do a Crosson/Sloniker family concert in our backyard before Myles takes off! It'll be Sunday, August 30th, from 6-8 pm. We will of course have seats appropriately distanced and masks will be required while everyone is getting settled in. Once seated, and when the concert begins, masks may be removed. We will not have our usual potluck style intermission, however folks are invited to bring their own snacks and drinks to enjoy during the concert. We plan to do two 45 minute sets with a half hour intermission. Masks will again be required as folks are moving about during that time. Since this event will have very limited seating (we still have to determine how many people we can fit!), we are asking that folks pay in advance. There is a suggested donation of $20 per person, however, knowing that these are hard times for many, we will trust your own judgement on what is affordable for you. Please RSVP first, and we will respond with payment instructions. We are really looking forward to playing some music for you - it's been WAY too long!

See ya soon!
Colleen, Mark, Myles, and Emma

Colleen will be at Sparge Brewing

Think Spring!

I'm certainly ready for the greening of the earth that is sure to start any week now here in Colorado! Since I haven't written since last December, I want to wish you all a Happy New Leap Year and a Happy Leap Day, on which I'll be singing with Mark Sloniker and friends at The Sunset Lounge in The Elizabeth Hotel in downtown Fort Collins. Another fun gig I've got coming up is a solo show at Sparge Brewing in Wellington on Friday, March 6th. As I mentioned in my last newsletter, I'm ramping up my solo gigging again, so I look forward to telling you about more shows like this one as they come in. See below for details on these gigs, our Paths of Heart Community Gatherings, and more, and as always, thanks for your support of live, local music!

Myles Sloniker is back in town from NYC and the whole family will convene at The Sunset Lounge this Friday night (tomorrow!) for some jazzy holiday merriment. Also, as I mentioned in my last newsletter, after quite some time of not doing many solo gigs, I'm jumping in again and have 2 new venues on "my side of town" (Wellington, actually) at which I'm excited to be playing in the coming weeks ~ I'll be at Soul Squared Brewing this Sunday afternoon, December 22nd, from 2-5 pm and then at Sparge Brewing on December 28th from 6-9 pm. Let me know if you're interested and I can make up a personalized gift certificate for you. Also, Mark and I are putting our whole catalogue of music on sale for the holidays (one CD for $10 or 3 for $25, plus $5 priority shipping). I can also arrange for pick-up or delivery if you're in the Fort Collins area. If you want to take advantage of this sale, just email us: colleencrosson@gmail.com

Mid November News

November 12, 2019

Harvest Time

November is here and the "holiday presence" is upon us!

It always comes a little too early for me, and yet, the festive atmosphere does bring me joy and twinkly lights lift my spirits, too, as the days grow shorter and shorter (and my bedtime gets earlier and earlier - ha ha!). After quite some time of not doing many solo gigs, I'm jumping in again and have 2 new venues on "my side of town" (actually, Wellington!) in which I'm excited to be playing in December ~ Soul Squared Brewing and Sparge Brewing. I hope you'll come out, support live music, and try some new brews! Details below.

In November, I have 2 appearances at The Sunset Lounge in The Elizabeth Hotel in downtown Fort Collins ~ the first one is this very Saturday, November 16th and then the following Saturday, November 23rd, we'll have the whole fam damily ~ Myles Sloniker will be back in town from NYC! Details also below.

'Tis the season for gift giving, and I have 2 ideas for the gift of music! Guitar, ukulele, or voice lessons are a fun thing to give a partner, child, or grandchild. Let me know if you're interested and I can make up a personalized gift certificate for you! Also, Mark and I are putting our whole catalogue of music on sale for the holidays (one CD for $10 or 3 for $25, plus $5 priority shipping!). If you want to take advantage of this sale, just email us: colleencrosson@gmail.com

Thank you always for your support of live, local music and
Happy Thanksgiving!

October events!

October 2, 2019

The Home Fires

Welcome October!

Here's a quick reminder of my 3 fun events happening this week - when it rains (and it has been finally on the Front Range of CO!) it pours, yes?

Tonight (Wednesday, Oct. 2nd) I'll join Mark Sloniker at The Sunset Lounge (5th floor of The Elizabeth Hotel) for an intimate duo performance from 8-11 pm.

On Thursday, October 3rd, from 7-9 pm we'll celebrate local author Teresa Funke's new book release, Bursts of Brilliance for a Creative Life, at Everyday Joe's Coffee House. This is a free event, and Teresa and I will be performing an abbreviated version of our "house concert" where she'll read short entries from her inspirational book and I'll pair a song that dovetails in with her theme. This will be our 4th performance of this nature together and it's always fresh, fun, and inspirational! You can pick up a copy of Teresa’s new book at steep discounts that night and enjoy some tasty desserts. Contact Teresa at teresa@teresafunke.com with any questions.

And to top off the week, on Saturday, October 5th is our "Paths of Heart Presents..." House Concert with The Home Fires, an Americana duo based in Minneapolis comprised of critically acclaimed singer/songwriters, Sarah Morris and Vicky Emerson!

Sarah and Vicky are established touring artists and after developing a close friendship and playing live shows together, they unearthed a gorgeous new sound featuring Sarah's clear, melodic voice and Vicky's warm, weathered harmony. In 2018, they were nominated for Americana Artist of the Year by the Midwest Country Music Association and opened for Emmylou Harris. Sarah and Vicky continue to write songs in the car on their Midwest tours with the intention of recording a new album.

This is The Home Fire's second appearance at our house concert series, and they'll also be with us Sunday morning at our Paths of Heart Gathering! Learn more about them and their music at https://thehomefires.bandzoogle.com

We hope you can make it to one or more of these events!

September Music News

September 12, 2019

Colleen on the Oregon Coast

Welcome, September!

I always love the "transitional" seasons of spring and fall and this month has me anticipating the changes that autumn brings - the colorful blooms of mums and asters all around our yard and those cool Colorado nights tempered by an outdoor fire in the chiminea. We just returned from a wonderful trip to the Oregon Coast and a fantastic 3 days at The Sisters Folk Festival, where I meet my sister most every year for her birthday. What an inspiration the diversity of music was, with good will and love a prominent theme amid the chaos of our country and world. Soul-soothing for sure...

Now we jump back in to the local music scene, where tonight I'll join Mark Sloniker and friends at THE TASTE, The Food Bank for Larimer County's annual fundraising event, from 5-9 at The Fort Collins Marriot. You can get tickets and more information at www.tastebenefit.org

Tomorrow night (Friday) I'll join Mark and the band at The Sunset Lounge (5th floor of The Elizabeth Hotel) from 8-11 pm.

Another special event on the horizon is local author Teresa Funke's new book release, Bursts of Brilliance for a Creative Life, happening at Everyday Joe's on Thursday, October 3rd, from 7-9 pm. You can pick up a copy of Teresa’s new book at steep discounts that night and enjoy some tasty desserts. Contact Teresa at teresa@teresafunke.com with any questions.

I wanted to remind folks that I not only play music for weddings and other celebrations, but am an ordained marriage minister as well, and love officiating ALL celebrations of love! Please help me spread the word about my services if you know of anyone looking for a unique experience. Visit https://www.colleencrosson.com/songbird-celebrations.html for more information.

And lastly, I have some openings for students of guitar, voice, or beginning ukulele if you or anyone you know is interested. I love teaching!

"Megan Bee with OMD" House Concert this Saturday!

August 14, 2019

Our Mothers' Daughters

Please join us for this special reunion concert!

Saturday, August 17th, 7 pm ~"Paths of Heart Presents" Megan Bee with OMD!! Catchy name, huh? Maybe we should go on tour together! The picture above represents only half of our "super group" of Barb Pons, Jennifer Reid, Deb Whitman, Erin Sullivan, Joanne Taylor (Schlafer), Krisann Meyer- Corcoran, Emma Sloniker, and Colleen Crosson. You won't want to miss this rare treat when most former and current members of Our Mothers' Daughters reunite the same weekend that Athens, OH singer songwriter Megan Bee takes the stage for our house concert series! Our Mothers' Daughters will sing several songs in each of Megan's sets, and we have one or two surprises for you as well.

Singer-songwriter Megan Bee writes with an unquenchable wanderlust and a raw love for the land. Her 2017 studio album Like a Canyon received The Ohio Music Awards Best Americana and Best Singer-Songwriter Album. It also won her a finalist spot in the 2018 USA Songwriting Competition. Her music is a blend of distinctly homespun vocals, acoustic simplicity, yearning soulfulness, and winsome storytelling. www.meganbeemusic.com

The popular a cappella group, Our Mothers Daughters was formed in 1986 in Fort Collins and performed regularly for almost 30 years to delighted audiences before scattering about the country and beyond. They are thrilled to be gathering once again for some musical mischief and just plain merrymaking together over the weekend!

Please join us for an unforgettable night! Concert starts at 7, so come early to grab a seat. We'll have an intermission with potluck finger foods and beverages in the backyard. Bring something to share if you can. Suggested donation is $20 at the door, but it is always your choice what to donate. We appreciate your support of our traveling musicians!

See below for Colleen's current schedule of events, including a performance next week with Mark Sloniker at The Sunset Lounge in The Elizabeth Hotel.

Sunset Lounge and Noontime Notes!

May 30, 2019

Emma, Colleen and Mark

Hi There ~

It's time for my quarterly (or is it semi-annual now??) check-in with you all about what's happening in my music world! It's not that I haven't been busy; it's just that things have shifted a bit into a regular routine and there hasn't been a lot of "new" news or changing venues. I sing with Mark (and our daughter Emma) fairly regularly at The Sunset Lounge and at Ace Gillett's in downtown Fort Collins, and I'll actually be with Mark at the Sunset THIS SATURDAY NIGHT, June 1st, from 8-11 pm (details below). I also wanted to let you know that Mark, Emma, and I will be kicking off the Noontime Notes Summer Concert series THIS COMING TUESDAY, June 4th in Oak St. Plaza from 11:30 am to 1 pm. We always look forward to the start of the outdoor concert season, both playing and listening!

Our Sunday morning Paths of Heart Gathering which features lots of music, poetry, and conversation on diverse topics is still going strong in our 6th year! Find out more about this human services/arts and education non-profit at https://pathsofheart.org

One of the programs Paths of Heart sponsors is a house concert series and we are excited about several upcoming shows! On the books is Athens, Ohio songwriter Megan Bee, coinciding with an Our Mothers' Daughters Reunion (!!!) on August 17th, as well as a return visit with MN songstresses The Home Fires in October. We are also working on a date for local favorite Brian David Collins in July and a nationally touring artist this fall (can't wait to tell you WHO if this comes to fruition!).

After some challenges with my hands this past year, I am hoping to resume playing solo shows (guitar/vocals) and will let you know of upcoming performances. Till then, a detailed schedule of all upcoming public events is below.

And lastly, I have some openings for students of guitar, voice, or beginning ukulele if you or anyone you know is interested. I love teaching!

Thanks for your support of live, local music!
